It's always a play date here at Fur Ever Yours Dog Rescue. There's always a fair amount of dogs coming and going. This tan and white chihuahua is being checked out by our resident dogs. When your dogs go on a play date, there are a few key things you need to keep in mind:
Safety first - Take into account the health and vaccinations of your dog's playmates. It may be awkward to ask "the question" however, your dog's health is of utmost importance. Breed and age are also things to consider. Some breeds (terriers) may run and chase well into advanced ages while the bigger dogs may want to "wrestle." You don't want your 5-lb Chihuahua or Yorkie wrestling with a Bull Mastiff on their first date.

Age - Puppies may just annoy senior dogs. Depending on your dog's temperament, your dog may "correct" the pup by snapping at them.
Introduce playmates outside in open areas. Going inside someone's home may trigger resource guarding. Perhaps your dog got to close to his playmate's bed or food bowl triggering a growl from the resident dog.
Lastly, do not leave the dogs unsupervised. Easy to say, as the dog parents comingle and drop their guard down, dogs are left to be dogs and the play date may become unpredictable.
