Lady is a sweet female Chihuahua looking for a new family. She makes sweet cuddly noises and is very good on telling her foster what she needs. Lady is about 10 pounds and we are working on scheduling routine vet appointments for her. Adoption details coming soon.
UPDATE: Teddi found the most wonderful mom!
Meet little Miss Teddi. She's a shy 7 year old Maltese. She lived in California with her elderly guardian. Sadly, her guardian passed. Her family brought her up to Omak, WA where she stayed for about 2 years. However, the household is too busy and chaotic for this sweet girl. She is longing for a quiet home with 1 or 2 adults that either work from home or are retired.

Jack lost his human recently. We think he is about 11 years old (waiting for vet records). Jack's ideal retirement home:

Update: Glitter found her forever home. She now lives in Mead, WA
Our local housing authority called us this week about a senior Chiweenie in need. Her owner passed last Friday and this little girl is alone in the house. One of our volunteers rushed to pick Glitter up. She is now safe with us. Glitter's first vet appointment is scheduled on August 29th.
Update August 26, 2022: Glitter is resting at her foster's. She beginning bond with him and is taking treats from her foster dad. She enjoys visits from other volunteers but seems unsure of her surroundings.

This little lover was surrendered in May of 2021 in a SW Washington shelter after being found in an empty house. Dino is 10 years old, Chihuahua Dachshund mix. He will be available for adoption soon. Cognitive decline is a reality in dogs. Having 4 senior dogs myself (lost my 5th one 1 day before he turned 17), I try to find ways to encourage mental stimulation daily. Because a dog's life is so short, symptoms can feel overwhelming and with a rapid onset of symptoms. Yes, dogs can develop dementia or canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCDS).

Using the acronym DISHAL can help us identify symptoms:
Disorientation: Staring at walls, getting trapped behind furniture or corners. My Willy was getting trapped behind my toilet and tables. This was very hard for me to witness.
Interactions: Changes in interactions with pets or people. These changes include aggression, changes in frequency of interaction or irritability. Willy became socially withdrawn during the last couple years of his life.
Sleep-wake cycle changes: Increased sleep during the day and less sleep during the night. This was especially challenging for me. Willy would pace at night.
House soiling: Increased accidents inside the house.
Activity changes: Pacing, anxiety, wandering, walking in circles.
Learning difficulties/memory loss: Inability to learn new tasks or forgetting previously learned skills.
Dog experts advice the use of food puzzles, snuffle mats, making a scent trail (drag something smelly on the floor with a nice treat at the end), train and re-train (sit, leave it, place, tug, fetch), chew toys, massage and acupuncture.

Wilson is altered, up to date on all shots (distemper parvo, rabies, dewormed). Open your heart and home for this gentle senior dog. He comes with a collar, harness, dog tag, and a dog bed.
