DIY Winter Paw Protection Recipe

Wednesday, November 24, 2021

Now that winter is here, we need to be more mindful of our dogs' paws. We're out for walks and runs and our dogs paws are bare. They may get weather-related damage and or get some de-icing road treatments that we don't want our dogs to ingest. The DIY paw protection recipe below is from Dr. Janet Roark, more famously known as the "essential oil vet." Here at Fur Ever Yours Dog Rescue, our resident pack gets #doterra essential oil as part of their daily health routine. Please work with your own veterinarian as you introduce essential oils and other holistic treatments to your dog.

ALL SEASONS PAW PROTECTION

3 oz beeswax

3 Tbsp Calendula infused oil

3 Tbsp Avocado oil

3 Tbsp Coconut oil

2 d Myrrh

2 d Frankincense

2 d Lavender

Rescue dogs need protection from the elements

Melt the beeswax and coconut oil in a double boiler – take off heat and add Calendula oil and Avocado oil. As mixture cools, add essential oils and place in containers wide enough to fit your dogs paw (shallow tins work well for this). Apply topically to paws as needed for protection and moisture.

The above recipe is from Dr. Janet Roark, Essential Oil Vet.
